It sounded like an explosion. My cat and dog ran away. My tea spilled and splashed out of the cup.

Felt alot of vibration, and a loud rumbling sound unlike the quarry noise from down the road. Both dogs oddly had just abruptly got up and left our side a second or two prior to us feeling it. All lasted for a good 20 seconds.

I was in the middle of watching the new Lost In Space on Netflix. A Jupiter spaceship was crashing when I heard and Explosion, followed by some tremors. At first, I thought to myself "My subwoofer is not the strong." I paused the show and caught the tail end of the tremors. I live on the second floor of an apartment building. I looked out my window to the other building and folks were coming out and asking one another what just happened. One woman said "Did someone run [drive a car] into the other side of the building?" In other words, that explosion sound & the accompanying initial tremor were quite powerful O.o

I live about 100 yards from 4 train tracks. The earthquake felt just like when a train is going a bit too fast on the track closest to my house. It was the same shake, but the sound came from under instead of outside. That is why I looked out and noticed no train was there. This is the first time I can say I actually felt and recognized an earthquake. In the past, I have assumed it was trains and friends said no, it was an earthquake.

I thought it was an explosion so I ran to the window to see if a neighbors house had exploded. I was upstairs and my glass in the curio cabinets was clinging making noises rattling. I immediate called my parents who live 7 minutes west of our place and they knew they experienced an earthquake as they have felt them prior in California.

Rumbling noise came out of the west to east. It sounded like an artillery barrage and became stronger in sound until it passed. The house shook and I could hear plates in the cabinets moving around. Once passed, I could hear the rumbling in the distance.

We also talked about a previous building explosion that had rocked the house. When we didn't see anything we started discussing the possibility that it was an earthquake.

I've been in a few Earthquakes from the Michigan fault line. This one felt different. We could hear it coming, before we felt it, which I don't ever remember hearing before. Wife actually commented: "What's that noise?" ... then we felt the tremor go through the house. Most Earthquakes I felt in the past seemed to last longer as well.
