Pontardawe (1 km E from epicenter)
I chose 'explosion' for the sound, as it was closest, but it was more like a thunder bolt. There was a feeling that the air moved very suddenly and a deep boom sound. I would not really describe as 'explosion' as that is louder, and not so deep. But it was the closest option on your list. I put yes.. did anybody run outdoors in panic, but people were not panicking.. everyone in the street came out of the their houses, but slowly, and were just shocked and concerned, and wondering if others felt it too, and checking their buildings and gardens for any damage. Eventually everyone went inside again, but there were also storm clouds here, when the earthquake occurred, so some people thought it was a large thunder ball, or something similar, due to the boom before the shaking.

The sound lasted for around 2 minutes maybe a little more. No damage seen.

Sketty (14 km SW from epicenter)
Was scooping some ice cream into a bowl when I heard a long, low-level rumble. It was loud enough to make me think about it but we have so many fighter jets flying overhead that I did think tha tperhaps it was just another jet. It was a different rumble to a jet though but, as I say, we get so many jets flying overheard that I didn't give it a second thought. However, within minutes, friends were texting whether I had just felt the earthquake so clearly many people felt it across Swansea. If this had happened in London I imagine that the BBC and Sky News would be talking about it endlessly for the next week. But as it happened in West Wales I can see that it is barely registering a mention on the news. The ice cream was lovely. Strawberry with bits of scones from the Co-Op. I am going to eat some more now to help me get over the trauma of surviving the Great Welsh Quake of 2018.

Sketty (14 km SW from epicenter)
It was a very strong shake, reminiscent of the kind of shaking we get in Greece which is where I am from originally. I live 15 years in the UK and the "Earthquake feeling" came rushing back. Nobody noticed in the cafe I was. I was sitting on a bench which shook visibly and so did my table. I shifted quickly but it stopped before I could do anything. I looked around to see if anyone else noticed but they were all engaged in other things. The thing is, I may have felt a smaller earthquake-like shake just before the strong one but I cannot be sure. I remember the feeling and checking around to see if anyone else noticed or if it was a bus hitting a pothole just outside the cafe. A few minutes later the big shake came.

Initially it felt like the sound of a low flying fast jet, which we do experience frequently here. However this never happens at weekends so it was quickly concluded that an earth tremor had happened.

My adult son sitting in the lounge thought there had been a gas explosion or builders nearby had hit an electricity cable He said the floor and settee he was sitting on, shook. I checked outside to see if the roof and chimney were OK as I didn’t know what had happened. It was over in a couple of seconds.

Cardiff (55 km SE from epicenter)
I was sitting on my sofa watching TV and peeling vegetables when I felt the sofa move slightly as if the floor shook beneath it and there was a noise like there was some sort of impact. Yet nothing heavy had fallen around the house and both my cats were looking around the house very startled. I even walked around my house (upstairs and downstairs) to check nothing had fallen. I'm in the house alone at the moment (apart from the cats) so I'm unsure if anyone else experienced this. I have never reported anything like this before but it was so unnerving that I felt compelled to do so. The whole experience only lasted for 2-3 seconds.

Cardiff (55 km SE from epicenter)
A slight tremor lasting several seconds to the block of flats that briefly startled my cat.

Felt like the whole foundations of our semi detached house shook - like someone slammed a door extremely hard, but without the sound. Ceiling lamps shook. Over in a couple of seconds. Alarming, but not frightening. Felt downstairs by all, but not upstairs. Woke the dog up, but she wasn't spooked.

Cardiff (55 km SE from epicenter)
I live in a corner apartment overlooking the Millennium Centre. I have experienced an earthquake in Taiwan so was shocked by this and thought a large truck had hit the building. My apartment shook and the TV rocked back and forth about 4 times. Its a decent sized TV. When I asked the neighbours they didn't appear to have felt anything so I found the whole thing strange and it not been for the fact that I had an independent witness I don't think anyone would have believed me that it had happened.

Cardiff (55 km SE from epicenter)
Deep low frequency rumble

Cardiff (55 km SE from epicenter)
I think my dogs sensed it first as they were barking, seemingly at nothing. Then I felt a slight rumbling under me as though someone was trying to shake me awake (even though I wasn't asleep). Nothing appears to have moved in the house though & I did wonder if it was just roadworks or something as I've felt stronger 'vibrations' from pneumatic drills.

My 14 month baby was silent for a few seconds afterwards and then became concerned. Our lizard was nonplussed.

It began by sounding as if a giant was walking on the house roof, then there was a loud rumbling, then the whole house shook back and forth very fast for a few seconds. I rushed out, imagining a hang glider had crashed into my house. Was puzzled to find no damage. My B.P. has been high since. My neighbour was lying on her bed and imagined the noise was from a cupboard and thought there must be a huge rat inside. She was hitting the cupboard with a stick and was quite relieved to know it was 'just' an earthquake... not a rat.

Abergavenny (60 km E from epicenter)

Burnham-on-Sea (78 km SE from epicenter)
Our region is very low laying and the soil is mainly sandy with clay sporadically spread at -1m. deeper there is a peat layer. The water table in the land is often affected by the tide and we are always affected by any large forces placed on the land such as the movement of Heavy Goods vehicles and Earthmoving equipment on the development site adjacent to this address. The movement we felt was similar in every way to the Vehicle movement except that on the day in question there were no such vehicles at the site. It feels as if the crust of the earth heaved like a fluid wave and all surface structures rose and fell with that wave.

Bleadon (79 km SE from epicenter)
My son, who lives in Bristol text me to say he had just felt an earth tremor, as well as his friends

Once I had decided there wasn't a bobcat or plumbing catastrophe in the loft I twigged that it must have been a tremor.

I was sitting, motionless, leaning on my desk when the desk appeared to move gently towards me by about half an inch and then move back, all in under half a second. I instantly recognised it as a minor earthquake, having experienced smaller ones before in Cornwall in south-west England. I believe the upper storey of the house moved this amount, with the desk moving with it, and it was my inertia that produced the movement of the desk relative to me. My wife felt nothing on the ground floor but she was standing and moving about at the time. A few minutes before, I had heard what I thought was hammering on the side of the house for about twenty seconds but after exploring outside, I could find no cause or explanation for this. I then returned to my desk before experiencing the movement described above. I don't know if the 2 events were related.

The birds outside were tweeting loudly. To start with I thought it was the people downstairs banging things, but then the whole house shuddered once and some car alarms went off outside. Cat looked up, interestedly, but did not react otherwise.

(163 km NE from epicenter)
My bed I was sitting on at the time started to make a rocking motion and I heard a creaking plastic sound behind me which was the window frames. I saw the window frame area appear to be wobbling! And my large wooden wardrobes were rocking lightly back and forth and making a sound. My computer chair was moving lightly side to side also and creaking. I heard no earthquake sounds, only the sounds of moving furniture and window sills. I was quite frightened that I rushed out of the room in a panic. I know it sounds silly to say this, but it felt like I had a poltergeist in my room like in those horror movies, because it only seemed to be affecting the one end of my bedroom where I was sitting! When I hurried downstairs to ask my mom if she felt an earthquake, she didn’t know what I was on about and said she’d not felt anything. I felt queasy, like a seasickness, for quite some time afterwards.

(163 km NE from epicenter)
The room moved - it was like a lorry driving over the ceiling and through the room. It rumbled and the walls shifted and then shifted back. I felt disoriented, as if I had been moved through time and space.

(163 km NE from epicenter)
Sharp upwards jolt while sat on sofa, heard window shift slightly too.

(163 km NE from epicenter)
I as sitting on the sofa. We have floorboards and whenever somebody moves around you can feel the vibration in the sofa, I thought the dog was scratching himself or somebody walking into the room behind me. It was only when my son messaged me from Stratford upon Avon that I realised what had happened.

(163 km NE from epicenter)
I don't remember any noise but the vibrations felt rather like those you get when a heavy lorry thunders past the house.

(163 km NE from epicenter)
my son was upstairs and the bed was shaking and there was a noise coming from the wall behind the bed. I was downstairs and could hear a bang occurring approx every one second that lasted for 10-15 seconds max, Not frightening though.

Huntington (166 km NE from epicenter)

St Austell (167 km SW from epicenter)
I was sitting at my computer working, and suddenly I felt the house swaying. I looked at the clothes basket by the window, and it was trembling. The curtain was trembling, too, and I could hear a faint, deep rumbling. I thought 'Earth tremor', but I didn't quite believe it, and I wondered in fact if it was I who was trembling and whether I was about to faint. I suppose the swaying/trembling only went on for half a minute or less, but it could have been longe. I thought maybe there was some blasting going on - but not on a Saturday afternoon, and there's been no blasting in this area for many years. I looked out of the window to see whether the birds at the feeders had taken flight, but either they didn't notice or they were too hungry to care, and I couldn't see any movement in the vegetation - but by then it had reduced to a mere tremble of the curtain. Quite disorientating. I've experienced mild tremors in the past, and now, as at each other time, I felt very odd - it was surreal.

I really only knew it was an earthquake because I have experienced two before, both in North America and some years ago.
