Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) collects and uses personal data through the LastQuake mobile application.

Data collected

• Geolocation data: used to display earthquakes occurring near the user and to help us rapidly detect events and their impact via crowdsourced detection (using anonymised data).
• User-generated content: comments, photos and videos may be optionally uploaded by the user when submitting a report of shaking to the EMSC.
• Account information: an email address may be optionally provided in order to allow the EMSC to respond to relevant scientific or technical questions.
• Technical data: basic technical logs required for the operation of the service.

Purpose of data collection

Data is collected solely to provide earthquake information services, enable user contributions (felt reports, comments, photos), and for scientific and statistical analysis.

Data sharing

Personal data is not sold or shared with third parties. Only anonymised and aggregated user-generated content may be shared or published, for example, it can be published on EMSC platforms, on social media, or used for academic research, without any personal data attached.

Data retention

Personal data is retained only as necessary to provide the service and to fulfill scientific or legal obligations.

User rights

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), users have the right to access, rectify, or request the deletion of their personal data.
